What is the Age Discrimination in Employment Act?
The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) protects individuals over the age of 40 from age discrimination in the workplace. However, while ADEA does not necessarily prevent a worker over the age of 40 from being favored over a younger worker, even in situations where both individuals are over 40, age discrimination may still have occurred. If your rights have been violated under this act, you may have good cause to file a civil suit against your employer or former employer. Since age discrimination may come in a variety of forms, you should contact an experienced employment lawyer if you suspect that you have been discriminated against.
