Is my employer obligated to observe legal holidays?
Since employers are not obligated to observe legal holidays in any way, it is entirely up to individual employers to determine their own policies concerning the observance of these days. As such, employers may put in place their own policies as to what time and what paid benefits will be provided to their employees on holidays. In any case, an employer should put its holiday policies—especially concerning pay and time off—into writing and provide it to new employees so they may know what to expect.
